Palaces and historical buildings have an extreme importance for Egypt and the whole world,
as it is considered an architectural legacy and a cultural civilizational inheritance that can’t be
neglected, particularly with the rise of these ideas calling for overhauling, maintaining and
refunctioning it within the physical entity of the city.
This highlights the importance of the idea that presented by this research, as the paper aims at
proposing a critic methodology that can be used and tracked when evaluating the efficiency of
museums, located in historical buildings. The research study’s objective can be achieved
through two main parts:
Which is concerned in the rise of historical buildings museums, its development and reasons
of surviving. It is also concerned with the conception of the historical building, its usage
conditions, conception of the Museum and fundamentals of its design theory, so as to perceive
the critical evaluation criteria.
Field study Section:
Concerned in investigating the most important local and international examples of historical
buildings museums, identifying its allocate of conformation to achieve the museum objectives
requirements and how far it may enclose technical settings required for exhibition.
This paper concludes the formation of the critical framework, the pros and cons of using
historical buildings as museums and its implications on the exhibition efficiency and
worthiness of transformation and maintenance cost. The research also introduces the most
important restrictions that should be considered before and after converting the historical
buildings to museums.
