The longitudinal impact of a rigid body on a flexible rod is theoretically investigated. The
mathematical model is numerically solved by the method of characteristics. The boundary
conditions at the contact end are fully discussed. A new treatment for the contact end is then
developed without using any non-physical conditions. Boundaries of both Venant and present are
applied to the main numerical solution. The results of the two solutions are discussed and
compared with available published experimental measurements. The results of both experimental
and Venant’s are characterized by the shape of pulse propagation. The proposed solution is
successfully simulated the physical wave propagation. The rebound velocity is accurately
calculated. All parameters variation prove the behavior of the continuous media mode
characterized by the wave propagation.
