A MODIFIED DESIGN OF THE RUSSIAN RADIATI CANYON FOR COBALT60 IRRADIATOR MAINTAIN ATTACHMENT FOR RESEARCH AND PRODUCTION

ABSTRACT

Many of Industrial radiation facilities using Co-60 irradiation are used in many countries in

development for sterilization of medical products and pharmaceuticals, with a small numbers being

used for processing of food items. The total instated capacity for processing of medical products at 20-

25 K Gy is about one million tones annually.

The designing analysis of different irradiation units which have the radiation activity and IV category

cleared that the radiation safety and good function of design elements were maintained of them.

The Russian radiation design is the best one of its category IV because it has the longest interior

dimensions and many active elements over others.

There is a need to make some modifications on the design of these radiation canyons to allow

radiation research, during mass production. By designing a new track for experimental research which

can pass inside and outside radiation canyon through a special maze (labyrinth). The research samples

will be put in two boxes out side the research door and they will go inside the canyon through research

maze and stopped behind the products cars on two position, facing the source rack which will be in

radiation position. The boxes will return back after finishing the exposure period.
