INTRODUCTION:
The seism phenomenon frequently affects North African countries. In 2003 – 2004 two
seism have taken place. The first in Algeria in the region of Boumrdes on May 21st 2003,
6.8 of magnitude on the Richter scale has been registered. The second in North east
morocco, on February 24th 2004. the magnitude was about 6.5 on the Richter scale. Both
countries have para seismic regulations; The APR 2003 regulations for Algeria and the
PSR 2000 regulations for Morocco. Both regulations are based on the equivalent static
method worked out by T. Omori in 1936. This method aims at the evaluation of the seismic
response of a given construction.
