Experiences in Vehicle Navigation and

the timely delivery of goods and services. It also provides a lifeline for

staff driving in remote desert locations and greatly assists emergency

response efforts. Recognizing this, Saudi Aramco has developed two

types of systems related to vehicle navigation, and vehicle dispatching

and monitoring. The dispatching system utilizes different types of

communication media to track the movement of company vehicles on

interactive GIS maps. Many technical challenges such as data update

mechanisms, integration with other systems and device limitations

were overcome during this project. This paper will share the

experiences and lessons learned over the course of building these

projects.
