ABSTRACT :
This paper presents an experimental investigation of rotating machinery malfunction
diagnostics using vibration data in correlation with operational process data .The advantages
of vibration monitoring systems as a part of preventive /predictive maintenance programs are
emphasized .Some of these malfunctions are misalignment and excessive radial preload in a
gearbox .In order to distinguish between bad and good gear conditions, experimental and field
data are employed to predict misalignment in the vertical and axial direction. Future
advancements in vibration monitoring and diagnostics of rotating machinery health are
discussed .
