STRAIN BASED SECTOR ELEMENTS FOR THE ANALYSIS OF PLANE ELASTICITY PROBLEMS WITH CIRCULAR CONTOUR

ABSTRACT

The principal objective of this work is to evaluate and test the strain based sector elements for the

analysis of plane elasticity problems with circular contour.

We present some sectors elements with five nodes; have two degrees of freedom (displacements radial

Ur and circumferential Vθ ) per node, where the static condensation method was applying to condense

their internal nodes.

The effectiveness of these elements is tested by its applications in problems of the symmetrical

rotational deformations of the plates with circular contours. It is shown that the strain based sector

elements converge much better than those based on displacements, and that requires a minimum

number of elements on which plate is divided.
