ABSTRACT
The prediction and/or evaluation of the fire influence on the behavior of concrete is still
implemented based on either microscopic or macroscopic techniques. Definitely none of them as
an individual technique can provide the actual behavior or performance of the concrete. It is
believed that such complicated problem needs a comprehensive technique such as the
combination between the digital image processing and the finite element analysis. Certainly,
relating the microstructure characteristics to the mechanical properties is considered the most
reliable approach to predict the behavior of the concrete which is exposed to fire. This paper
reports the analytical and experimental results of the ultimate load carrying capacity of concrete
specimens exposed to fire at 700ºC for one hour in a closed furnace. The specimens are then
cooled by using three different cooling schemes.
