ABSTRACT
The production of master alloy from aluminium with other alloying elements such as
Ti, Sr, V etc… is a main target in aluminium industryies. The main uses of these alloys
are: in alloying, grain refining and modification. An Al-V master alloy has been
obtained by reduction of vanadium pentoxide by molten aluminium. The factors
affecting the reduction process such as bath temperature, vanadium pentoxide to
aluminium ratio and roasing temperature were studied. Some tests such as chemical
analysis, X-ray diffraction and microstructure examination were carried out on the
produced alloys. The results obtained indicate that the produced alloys containing up to
6% V in the form of Al3V can be use as a master alloy.
